Project Details

The development of FMG’s Central Facilities (CFY) was originally initiated in 2014, then placed on hold. The project was then re-initiated, utilising the 2014 design as a basis for developing a new project design. Centrals completed the redesign and optimisation process, alongside our design consultants, to meet the newly defined requirements and according to project functional/

operational specifications. Centrals self-performed a majority of the project works, with engagement from specialist electrical subcontractors, where required.

The CFY is approximately 40 ha (1,000m x 400m) and has been designed to accommodate the full range of maintenance activities, for the fleet of mobile plant and equipment in operation at the Solomon minesite. The intent is for wheeled equipment to have all servicing and maintenance carried out in the CFY. A majority of emergency maintenance and major repairs for tracked equipment will also be carried out in the CFY, as part of the optimisation program.

In general, the Central Facilities project consisted of the design and construction of the following facilities:

  • Heavy mobile equipment (HME) workshop
  • HME wash, tyre and weld bays
  • Autonomous Haulage System (AHS) transfer bay
  • Light vehicle (LV) workshop and wash bay
  • Lubrication farm
  • Wastewater ponds
  • Office and crib facilities
  • Stores warehouse 1; and
  • Stores warehouse 2

During the NPI construction phase, Centrals was awarded the Sprung Structures relocation scope. The scope, which Centrals successfully completed, was to relocate and repurpose the two existing Sprung Structures from the Solomon TSF yard, to the new CFY as two fully-functional warehouse facilities.
