Project Details

Construction of the Fortescue Metals Group (FMG) Solomon Hub Ore Processing Facilities began in Q2, 2011. Prior to construction, more than three billion tonnes of high grade ore had been discovered at the Solomon Hub, 120 km to the west of the Chichester Hub. The new operation took advantage of the low strip ratios, conventional mining methods and FMG’s existing integrated supply chain.

Centrals executed the work, in partnership with Cimeco, and provided project management, labour and plant as part of an integrated alliance, to construct the civil and concrete scope for the Ore Processing Facilities and three iron ore crushers at FMG’s Solomon Hub project.

The scope included earthworks, formwork, reinforcing steel, approx. 35,000 m³ concrete placement to the CID and BID plant, and 9,000 m³ concrete placement to crusher foundations and associated equipment. Work also included the construction of Reinforced Earth (RE) walls and backfill activities.
